The Clients I Love Working With

Linda

It's not about one business in particular. It's a pattern that I keep seeing in the founders I enjoy supporting most.

A pattern, not a checklist

Every so often I come across a founder story that reminds me of exactly why I do this job. It's rarely about one business in particular, it's a pattern I keep noticing in the clients I enjoy working with most and it felt worth writing down.

Founding teams that complement each other

The businesses I get most excited about are almost always founder-led and often built by two people whose skills complement rather than duplicate each other. One partner deeply understands the problem, sometimes because they've lived it professionally for years. The other brings the commercial and operational instincts to build a business around it.

That split usually means one of them is heads-down on delivery whilst the other is thinking about structure, partnerships and cash, which is exactly where I come in.

A real problem, not a trend

The best of these businesses aren't chasing a trend. They're solving something real, a gap that people have quietly worked around for years, one that keeps surprising the founders themselves because almost everyone they talk to assumes a proper solution already exists. That kind of problem has staying power and so does the business built to solve it.

The right stage

Stage matters too. My favourite clients are usually early enough that good financial habits can be built in from day one, rather than untangled later under pressure, but real enough, with genuine partners and genuine revenue, that those habits actually get tested.

Often, they're running a model with more than one type of customer to manage, perhaps a business paying for access, individual users benefiting from the service and a network of freelancers or professionals being paid out the other side. Models like that look simple from the outside, but they live or die on the detail: invoicing correctly, paying a growing network of contractors on time and accurately and keeping margins visible as volume increases.

Mission with a plan

What ties it all together is a founding team that treats mission and commercial sense as the same conversation, not two separate ones. It would be easy to build a purely emotional pitch around the problem they're solving. The founders I enjoy working with talk in the same breath about partnerships, supply and growth, heart and a plan together. That combination is what makes a business genuinely fundable, sustainable and enjoyable to support.

A final word

If that sounds like your business, founder-led, solving a real problem and starting to think seriously about the numbers behind the mission, that's exactly the kind of client I'd love to talk to, so why not get in touch for a chat.
