Accountant for startups

An accountant for your first year in business

Starting a business brings a long list of decisions and getting the financial basics right early on saves a lot of time and worry later. We work with new business owners across Yorkshire to get things set up properly from day one.

Sole trader or limited company?

One of the first decisions is how to structure your business. We talk you through the practical differences, including tax, paperwork and personal liability, so that you can make a decision that suits your situation rather than guessing.

Getting set up properly

From registering with HMRC or Companies House to choosing and setting up cloud accounting software, we handle the admin that is easy to get wrong when you are focused on actually building the business. Our free resources cover a lot of the early questions too.

Support as you grow

Cashflow forecasting, budgeting and regular management accounts help you to see problems coming before they arrive, rather than finding out at year-end. As your business grows, we grow our support alongside it.

Frequently asked questions

When should a new business get an accountant?

Before you register, if you can. The structure you choose and the way you set up your records in the first few months are much easier to get right than to unpick later.

Do I need to register for VAT when I start out?

Only once your taxable turnover passes the registration threshold over a rolling twelve months, although voluntary registration sometimes makes sense earlier. We will look at your numbers and tell you plainly which applies to you.

Can you help me set up QuickBooks, Xero or Sage?

Yes. We help you choose between them based on how your business actually runs, then set up the chart of accounts, bank feeds and VAT settings so that your figures are right from the first month.
